H annesína Scheving, an emergency nurse and secondary school teacher at the Akureyri Vocational School (VMA), bears the rare name of her grandmother. She has worked as an emergency nurse in the emergency department of Akureyri Hospital for years, but this fall decided to change tack and transfer to the psychiatric ward.
"I wanted to change things up a bit. I know that communication is my strong point and decided to go to the psychiatric ward, which I know will be a good school. I am happy in the psychiatric ward, although I also love working in the emergency department. The hospital is a lively place and always very busy, but I want to have enough to do. You just have to be organized and take good care of yourself," says Hannesína.
She has always been an avid exerciser. "Today I walk seven kilometers every single day and do yoga at the same time. I go for a walk with music in my ears and always come back happy. We only have this one body and as we age, we become more aware of taking good care of it so that it lasts a long time. We all know what it takes to achieve better health; it is exercise, enough sleep and a healthy diet. People just need to believe in themselves and the changes they can make to improve their health. We can do anything if we just want to."
